| The Oil Sands
TBA
Alberta is at the beginning of an “Oil Sands boom”,
with recoverable reserves second only to Saudi Arabia. Bitumen production
is climbing annually as new projects come on stream and huge investments
are planned for the future.
In this new course, we:
- Review the importance of the Oil Sands as well as their geology,
their origin and their history of development
- Document the land holdings and the extraction and production
methods, both mining and in-situ projects
- Highlight the current developments by the major players
- Examine the economics, production, reserves and marketing aspects
of the Oil Sands
- Discuss some of the technical and social issues surrounding
their development
This is a ‘general interest’ course designed to summarize
the processes followed in turning bitumen into world-class crude
oil, and to outline the challenges and opportunities for the future.
Anyone involved or interested in the Oil Sands, such as technical
staff, investor groups, service companies, financial institutions,
will find this course provides the essential background on which
to capitalize on future opportunities, and the course manual will
be a very useful reference.
